Obsidienne: The Musician Angels
Obsidienne invites audiences to (re)discover the incredible variety of European medieval song, drawing inspiration from the marvelous depictions of angel musicians in medieval iconography. But what remains of the Middle Ages in today’s traditional music? During this concert, no fewer than twenty instruments will be showcased and played: some are the direct result of musicological research, while others come from countries where instrument-making techniques have changed little since the medieval period. Cantigas de Santa Maria and Sephardic songs, carols and jigs or reels, the Bayeux Manuscript, and traditional songs and dances from our regions come together in a revitalizing lineage and kinship.
